Privacy policy
PhoneMail gives your mobile number an email address, like 9876543210@phonemail.net. This page says what PhoneMail keeps about you, why, and what it never does. PhoneMail is a beta product by S. R. Jai Aditya.
What PhoneMail keeps
- Your mobile number. It is your account and your email address.
- Your email. The emails you send and receive, their attachments, and your drafts, so you can read them on any of your devices.
- Your profile. The name you choose to show, your language, the aliases you add, and the profile picture you pick. A profile picture can be seen by anyone who has your address.
- A password, only if you set one. It is stored as a secure hash, never as the password itself.
- Sign-in records that keep you signed in on your devices, and the technical logs every web server keeps (such as the time of a request), used only to run and protect the service.
Text messages and calls
- To prove your number is yours, PhoneMail texts you a one-time code, or you text it or call it. These texts and calls are handled by Twilio, which receives your number for that purpose.
- If you use PhoneMail without the app, you may get a short text when someone emails you, saying who wrote and the subject.
- PhoneMail never calls you.
Your contacts
If you allow it, the app reads your phone's contacts to suggest people as you type and to show their names in your chats. Your contacts are used only on your phone and are never uploaded to PhoneMail.
Your pictures and files
The app reaches your photos and files only when you choose one to attach or to use as your profile picture. Photo styles for profile pictures are applied on your phone before the picture is uploaded.
What PhoneMail never does
- No advertising, and no advertising or analytics trackers, in the website or the apps.
- Your email and your number are never sold or shared for marketing.
- Nobody reads your email, except when the law requires it.
Where your data is
PhoneMail runs on its own server in India. Email you send to people at other providers (Gmail, Outlook and so on) necessarily goes to their servers.
Deleting your data
You can remove your aliases and profile picture yourself at any time. To delete your account and its email, write from your PhoneMail address to jaiaditya.sr@phonemail.net, and it will be deleted.
Children
PhoneMail is not meant for children under 13.
Questions and changes
Write to jaiaditya.sr@phonemail.net. If this policy changes, the date at the top changes, and important changes are announced in the app.
